Description: This issue brief examines which farmers and ranchers are at greatest risk of experiencing financial hardship due to health care costs. It uses two measures of hardship. The first uses the percentage of income households spend on health care. The second measure is perceptual; it defines households as experiencing hardship if they reported that health care costs contributed to financial problems. We also examined some of the negative financial consequences these households experienced because of health care costs.
